Microsoft revealed on Monday that it’s rolling out a new feature called Bing Video Creator within its app, which leverages OpenAI’s Sora model to turn written prompts into AI-generated video content.
While OpenAI has restricted Sora’s video generation to paying users, this marks the first instance where the tool becomes accessible at no cost—thanks to its integration in Bing.
At the moment, Bing Video Creator isn’t available for desktop users, and despite offering a “fast” mode that promises quicker results, videos can still take several hours to render.
Anyone with a Microsoft account can produce up to 10 video clips for free using the Bing app. After reaching that limit, each additional video costs 100 Microsoft Rewards points. These points can be earned through Bing searches or purchases via the Microsoft Store—users get, for instance, 5 points for each Bing search on a PC, capped at 150 points per day.
Users can generate up to three clips at a time, with each video capped at 5 seconds in length. There’s currently no option to extend video duration. Output is limited to a vertical 9:16 aspect ratio, aligning with formats popular on TikTok and Instagram. However, support for horizontal aspect ratios is expected to arrive soon.
