Instagram Plans TV App To Expand Video Reach

Instagram might soon make its way onto your TV screen. The company is reportedly working on a dedicated TV app designed to bring its videos—especially Reels—to bigger displays.

CEO Adam Mosseri shared the idea at the Bloomberg Screentime conference in Los Angeles. He explained that as more people watch content on TVs, Instagram needs to keep up with how audiences are consuming media.

For now, there’s no official launch date. Mosseri said the team is still figuring out how to make Instagram videos, particularly short-form ones, look great and feel natural on TV devices.

Don’t expect live sports or Hollywood movies on this app, though. Mosseri made it clear Instagram isn’t turning into a full-blown entertainment network—it’s sticking to what it does best: quick, vertical videos that fit today’s attention spans.

If this happens, it could make Instagram a stronger competitor to YouTube and TikTok, especially as people increasingly watch content from the couch rather than their phones. Still, adapting vertical videos to wide TV screens won’t be easy—it’s a design, user experience, and monetization puzzle the company will have to solve carefully.
